About Dr Petre
Dr Joel Petre is an Australian trained Neurologist, providing consultation in all areas of adult Neurology.
He trained in Neurology at many hospitals around Australia and internationally, including the prestigious Cambridge University Hospital (Addenbrooke’s Hospital), where he specialised in vascular disorders of the central nervous system, such as stroke and cerebral small vessel disease.

Dr Petre grew up in Cairns, North Queensland, where he was the Dux of St Augustine’s College. He went on to study Medicine for 6 years, graduating with the Academic Medal. He then completed a Master of Medicine at the University of Sydney, where he was awarded the Dr Couch Prize for the highest score in Pharmacology.
Dr Petre has conducted important research with the University of Queensland, involving the use of innovative technology to improve access to specialist care. He remains involved in the implementation of eConsult between Neurologists and GPs. He has supported medical students and junior doctors in their training, and holds an academic position at the University of Queensland.
Outside of medicine, you will find Dr Petre spending time with his young family. He is also a keen supporter of Australian sport, particularly golf and cricket.

- Nerve conduction studies, including the diagnosis of compressive mononeuropathies (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome), polyneuropathies and other neuromuscular disorders
- Botulinum toxin for primary hyperhidrosis, hemifacial spasm and cervical dystonia
- Neuro-Ophthalmic Disorders, including idiopathic intracranial hypertension
- Seizures and Epilepsy
- Multiple Sclerosis, including the use of the latest high efficacy injectable therapies
